Art Class

Primary Years

Mathematics - Use reasoning to explore and make connections. 

  • Oral Storytelling encourages prediction and sequencing, which support the development of logical reasoning.

Science - Communicate observations and ideas using oral or written language, drawing, or role-play.

  • Oral Storytelling develops observation skills and vocabulary and strengthen communication.

Social Studies - Recognize causes and consequences of events, decisions, or developments in their lives. 

  • Oral Storytelling promotes inferencing, sequencing, and theory of mind, and demonstrates cause and consequence in an impactful manner. 

 

Language Arts - Create stories and other texts to deepen awareness of self, family, and community. 

  • Oral Storytelling supports identity development, communication skills, and peer/community connections. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Middle Years

Mathematics - Engage in problem-solving experiences that are connected to place, story, cultural practices, and perspectives relevant to local First Peoples communities, the local community, and other cultures. 

  • Oral Storytelling develops pattern recognition, sequencing, and theory of mind which aid problem-solving skills.

Science - Make predictions about the findings of their inquiry and identify patterns and connections in data. 

  • Oral Storytelling supports inferencing, predicting, sequencing, pattern recognition, and develops comprehension. 

​

Social Studies - Explain different perspectives on past or present people, places, issues, or events, and compare the values, worldviews, and beliefs of human cultures and societies in different times and places. 

  • Oral Storytelling improves vocabulary, syntax, and grammar, and encourages generative language. 

​

Language Arts - Exchange ideas and viewpoints to build shared understanding and extend thinking. 

  • Oral Storytelling is precisely the practice of exchanging ideas and viewpoints to build shared understanding and extended thinking!

Mathematics - • Develop, demonstrate, and apply mathematical understanding through play, inquiry, and problem solving.

  • Oral Storytelling facilitates opportunities for inquiry to grow and expand.

Science - Use knowledge of scientific concepts to draw conclusions that are consistent with evidence. 

  • Oral Storytelling improves decoding skills, and promotes keen attention to detail, which are essential when identifying conclusive evidence. 

​

Social Studies - Explain and infer different perspectives on past or present people, places, issues, or events by considering prevailing norms, values, worldviews, and beliefs. 

  • Oral Storytelling develops pattern recognition, improves communication skills, and enhances critical observation competency. 

​

Language Arts - Use and experiment with oral storytelling processes. 

  • Oral Storytelling is a wonderful way to introduce numerous styles of oration: spoken work, debate, personal monologue, etc. 

​
